The Pakistan Super League is set for a historic expansion as the league prepares to grow from six to eight teams ahead of the 2026 season. The Pakistan Cricket Board has cleared multiple bidders after completing the technical evaluation of proposals setting the stage for a franchise auction on January 8 in Islamabad.

Among the high profile names entering the race is the Tareen Group led by businessman Ali Khan Tareen former owner of the Multan Sultans. Tareen played a key role in the Sultans’ rise to prominence including their PSL title win in 2021 and now aims to secure ownership of one of the league’s new franchises.

Other confirmed bidders include Inverex Group a major renewable energy firm; VGO TEL a Karachi based telecommunications brand; and OZ Group a diversified conglomerate with interests across multiple sectors. Each is competing for the opportunity to own one of Pakistan cricket’s newest T20 teams.

Once franchises are awarded owners will select home cities from a PCB approved list including Faisalabad Rawalpindi Hyderabad Sialkot Muzaffarabad and Gilgit. This will expand the PSL’s reach bringing top level cricket to new regions across the country.

The expansion reflects growing investor and corporate interest in Pakistan’s premier T20 league underscoring the PSL’s commercial success and rising popularity. Fans and cricket enthusiasts now look forward to the January auction which promises fierce competition and a new chapter in the league’s history.
