In Pakistan the Ministry of Finance has reaffirmed that the federal government is ensuring timely and sustained financial transfers to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the National Finance Commission Award.

In a press release issued in Islamabad the Ministry stated that KP continues to receive its full share under Pakistan’s 7th NFC Award including the additional one percent allocation granted in recognition of the province’s sacrifices during the War on Terror. Due to the absence of consensus on later NFC awards the 7th NFC framework remains in effect.

The Ministry clarified that NFC funds are released on a fortnightly basis with no outstanding liabilities. Most recently more than 46 billion rupees were transferred to the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on December seventeenth.

Since July 2010 Pakistan’s federal government has transferred nearly 5.9 trillion rupees to KP from the divisible pool along with over 700 billion rupees for War on Terror related needs. Straight transfers including oil and gas royalties have exceeded 482 billion rupees.

Beyond NFC obligations the federal government has provided over 700 billion rupees for the Newly Merged Districts and more than 117 billion rupees for internally displaced persons.

The Ministry also highlighted continued federal investment through development projects and Pakistan’s Benazir Income Support Programme while confirming progress on the 11th NFC Award.
