Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to take control of the Pakistan Super League franchise Multan Sultans next year after the current ownership agreement expires on December 31 2025.
According to official sources the PCB will manage the team through the 2026 PSL season before auctioning it to a new owner in 2027 a move expected to ensure continuity while the board selects fresh ownership.
This decision comes after Multan Sultans’ owner Ali Tareen confirmed that he will part ways with the franchise following a year of strained relations with the PCB over financial and contractual issues.
Financially the interim arrangement is projected to save the PCB around $4 million for the year as the board won’t need to pay out funds from the central revenue pool or sponsorship contributions though it also means foregoing the annual franchise fee of about $8.5 million.
The Multan Sultans have been one of the most competitive teams in the PSL since joining the league originally acquired for a record fee before changing ownership to the Tareen family in 2018.
Under PCB management the goal will be to keep the franchise operational and competitive in the upcoming season with officials expected to finalize the policy decision within the coming week.
For cricket fans across Pakistan this marks a major shift in the PSL landscape with the board stepping in temporarily and preparations underway for a new chapter in the team’s history.
