Silver prices have surged to record highs breaking past sixty five dollars an ounce as fresh U.S economic data fuels expectations of interest rate cuts next year.

Spot silver jumped more than three percent on Wednesday reaching sixty five dollars ninety one cents an ounce after briefly touching an all time high of sixty six dollars fifty two cents during the session. The rally marks one of the strongest performances for silver in recent years.

The surge comes after softer than expected U.S. jobs data signaled a cooling labor market strengthening market bets that the Federal Reserve could begin cutting interest rates sooner than previously expected. Lower rates typically weaken the dollar and boost demand for precious metals.

Gold also advanced benefiting from the same shift in rate expectations as investors repositioned toward safe haven assets amid growing uncertainty about the U.S. economic outlook.

Analysts say silver’s gains are being driven not only by macroeconomic factors but also by tight global supply rising industrial demand particularly from the renewable energy and electronics sectors and increased speculative interest from investors.

With inventories constrained and demand remaining strong market watchers warn that volatility could stay elevated. However many believe silver’s momentum may continue if economic data reinforces expectations of monetary easing in the months ahead.
