World Cup organisers have moved to ease growing anger among football fans by unveiling a new lower priced ticket category for the 2026 tournament set to be hosted across the United States Canada and Mexico.
Football’s global governing body FIFA says it has created a limited “Supporter Entry Tier,” offering tickets at sixty dollars for all one hundred and four matches including the final. The initiative is aimed at helping travelling supporters follow their national teams throughout the competition.
FIFA says the reduced price tickets will be reserved for fans of qualified nations and will represent ten percent of each national federation’s ticket allocation.
Despite the announcement supporters’ groups remain critical. Football Supporters Europe has welcomed what it calls a partial recognition of fan concerns but says the changes do not go far enough to address affordability.
The group argues that ticket prices for the 2026 World Cup are almost five times higher than the previous tournament. It estimates that a fan following their team from the opening match to the final would spend at least six thousand nine hundred dollars.
Critics also highlight that early tournament proposals promised entry prices starting at just twenty one dollars fuelling accusations that football’s showpiece event is drifting further out of reach for ordinary fans.
